Executive Order 95-06

PARATRANSIT TASK FORCE

WHEREAS, paratransit services are provided throughout the State to meet a variety of transportation needs of transportation-dependent populations, including the elderly and the handicapped;

WHEREAS, a paratransit task force was created by Executive Order 95-5, which did not include a representative of the Department of Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals; and

WHEREAS, the key state agencies and departments involved with paratransit services in the state are the Department of Elderly Affairs, the Department of Transportation, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority and the Department of Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, LINCOLN ALMOND, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, do hereby order as follows:

1. Executive Order 94-5 shall remain in full force and effect except that membership on the task force shall be revised as follows:

The Task Force shall consist of eight members:

A. Director of the Department of Elderly Affairs, or a designee, who shall serve as Chair;

B. General Manager of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, or a designee;

C. Director of the Department of Transportation, or a designee;

D. Director of the Department of Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals, or a designee;

E. Associate Director, Division of Planning, Department of Administration, or a designee;

F. Executive Director of the Governor's Commission on the Handicapped; and

G. Two public members, one of which shall be a transportation provider, to be appointed by the Governor.

This Executive Order shall take effect immediately upon the date hereof.
