June 25, 2002

TO THE HONORABLE, THE SENATE:

In accordance with the provisions of R.I. Gen. Laws Section 43-1-4, I am transmitting herewith, with my disapproval, 2002-S 2864, "An Act Relating to the City of Providence."

This Act would authorize the Rhode Island Roger 'Williams Memorial Association to convey to the City of Providence certain lands to be held as a parkway approach to the Roger Williams Monument on Prospect Terrace and as a memorial to Roger Williams.

This bill was introduced and passed by the General Assembly in support of a Resolution passed by the City Council of Providence on April 25, 2002. Subsequently, the sponsor of the bill indicated that the City of Providence no longer supports this bill and requested a veto.

For the foregoing reasons, I disapprove of this legislation and respectfully urge your support of this veto.

Sincerely,

Lincoln Almond
Governor
