Executive Order 96-07 July II, 1996 WHEREAS, Victory Day is celebrated as a State Holiday on August 12, 1996 to commemorate the noble sacrifices made by our citizenry during World War II; and WHEREAS, one of Rhode Island's most treasured natural resources, its magnificent public beaches, should be made available to the State's citizens without cost whenever possible; and WHEREAS, Rhode Island General Laws §42-17.1-9.1 permits the Director of the Department of Environmental Management to establish appropriate user fees for State beaches, parks and recreation areas; and WHEREAS, an appropriate way to commemorate certain holidays observed in Rhode Island is to provide this State's citizens with free access to all public beaches, parks and recreation areas. NOW, THEREFORE, I, LINCOLN ALMOND, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, do hereby order and direct the following: 1. The Director of the Department of Environmental Management, with my approval and pursuant to R.I. General Laws Section 42-17.1-9.1, may from time to time waive user fees for all State beaches, parks and recreation areas on any legal holiday recognized by the State of Rhode Island. This Executive Order supercedes Executive Order 95-16 and shall take effect immediately upon the date hereof. So Ordered: Lincoln Almond Governor |
