Executive Order 96-09 August 21, 1996 WHEREAS, the Almond administration is committed to downsizing, streamlining, and making more cost effective state government; and WHEREAS, the departments of Labor and Employment and Training have performed many overlapping and related functions; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the people of the State of RHode Island that the functions of these two departments be administered by a single department, overseen by a single director; and WHEREAS, legislation (H-96-8219) has been enacted which creates, within the Executive Branch, a Department of Labor and Training and which transfers both the functions of the Department of Employment and Training to the newly created Department of Labor and Training; and WHEREAS, this legislation expressly provides authorization, by Executive Order, to transfer or reallocate appropriations of any department or agency - including the Department of Labor and the Department of Employment and Training - to the Department of Labor and Training. NOW, THEREFORE, I, LINCOLN ALMOND, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, do hereby order and direct the following: 1. The appropriation and FTE authorizations of the Department of Labor and the Department of Employment, and Training are transferred to the newlv created Department of Labor and Training.
