GOVERNOR'S CENTER ON AGING ADVISORY COUNCIL

WHEREAS, the Rhode Island Center on Aging will serve strengthen home and community-based services through collaborative partnerships; and

WHEREAS, the Rhode Island Center en Aging will be the new site and location for the Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs; and

WHEREAS, the new location to be developed as the Rhode Island Center on Aging is the former Welcome Arnold Shelter in the Howard Complex, Cranston, Rhode Island; and

WHEREAS, the Rhode Island Center on Aging will be a central information and processing center for all elder services and programs available throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, the Rhode Island Center on Aging will be the centralized location where all elder leadership and advocacy groups can meet; and

WHEREAS, the Rhode Island Center on Aging will serve as the hub for research and development in the field of aging and will maintain a library that can be accessed by all Rhode Islanders; and

WHEREAS, in order to gather the needed advice, technical assistance and developmental expertise from Rhode Island's aging network, an Advisory Council will be formed to develop and plan the Rhode Island Center on Aging.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, LINCOLN ALMOND, by virtue of the authority vested in me as the Governor of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, do hereby order as follows:

1. The Governor's Center on Aging Advisory Council is hereby established to plan and develop the Rhode Island Center on Aging located on the Howard Complex, Cranston, Rhode Island.

2. The Council shall coordinate and collaborate with designated staff of the Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs, the Department of Administration and the Governor's Office to plan and develop the construction renovations and ail phases and components of the Rhode Island Center on Aging.

3. The Council shall promote and provide leadership in the public relations campaign to see< approval of the funding referendum for the Rhode Island Center on Aging scheduled to be on the November, 1998 ballot.

4. The Council shall meet monthly, or more frequently as the Council considers necessary to complets its mandate.

5. The membership of the Governor"s Center on Aging Advisory Council shall be comprised of sixteen (16) voting members appointed by the Governor, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor.

This Executive Order shall take effect immediately upon the date hereof.
