WAIVER OF ENTRANCE FEES AT STATE BEACHES

WHEREAS, Victory Day is celebrated as a State Holiday on August 10, 1998 to commemorate the noble sacrifices made by our citizenry during World War II; and

WHEREAS, one of Rhode Island's most treasured natural resources, its magnificent public beaches, should be made available to the State's citizens without cost whenever possible; and

WHEREAS, the Rhode Island General Laws §42-17.1-29 permits the Director of the Department of Environmental Management to establish appropriate user and entrance fees for State beaches: and

WHEREAS, an appropriate way to commemorate certain holidays observed in Rhode Island is to provide this State's citizens with free access to all public beaches.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, LINCOLN ALMOND, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, do hereby order and direct the following:

1. The Director of the Department of Environmental Management, with my approval and pursuant to R.I. General Laws Section 42-17.1-29 may from time to time waive user and/or entrance fees for all State beaches on any legal holiday recognized by the State of Rhode Island.

2. All Rhode Island beaches will be open to the public free of entrance fees on August 10, 1998.

This Executive Order supercedes Executive Order 97-8 and shall take effect immediately upon the date hereof.
